A&P REAP BENEFITS OF LONG TERM ESAB RELATIONSHIP

The A&P Tyne Yard, part of the A&P Group is a long-term user of welding and cutting equipment supplied by the ESAB Group. Both companies are reaping the benefits of a relationship which has seen the two companies work together to develop and implement the optimum welding and cutting solutions for A&P's fabrication and ship repair and conversion.

A&P's large facility includes fabrication and repair workshops to carry out projects from simple ship repairs to major complex conversions. In addition to the shipbuilding industry, the company's customer base includes oil companies and their contractors as well as the MOD. The company's fabrication yard lends itself to marine projects, building offshore modules and sub-sea structures.

As part of the long-term supply arrangement, the ESAB Group has over the years supplied A&P with many products including six Murex Transweld Challenger 400 MIG welding machines, Murex Vortic Marine and Filarc 56S welding electrodes, Murex Corofil R59Ni and ESAB OK Tubrod 15.17 flux cored wires. The Challengers are well suited to a wide range of mild steel welding and fabrication jobs and are used extensively around the A& P site, with their portability an important factor. The change to flux cored wire from stick welding electrodes was typical of the type of technical support that ESAB has given A&P over the years. This decision enabled A&P to improve productivity across all areas of the business. Significant productivity improvements were also made through investment in an ESAB Cutting Systems' Suprarex plasma cutting system that has saved time and money in fabrication work.

For A&P, the technical advice and the security of supply chain provided by ESAB is vital. It enables them to provide a better service to their own customers and also pass on the cost and other benefits.

For ESAB, the close understanding of A&P's requirements in terms of product quality, technical support and other key performance indicators enables them to offer the optimum welding and cutting solutions and plan for A&P's customer's future requirements.  Malcolm Oliver Procurement Manager at A&P says: "ESAB offers very good reliable products and good service to match. Our long term relationship has been of immeasurable benefit to us and our customers."
