252 & 352
Under various guises,
the existing Transtigs 250HF, 275s and 375s have been around for almost
a decade. With the ever growing demands for improved performance, greater
reliability and cost effectiveness, Murex is now introducing two totally
new Transtig AC/DC power sources as replacements, offering excellence
in both TIG and MMA welding, AC and DC.
New technology in combination with improvements in design for manufacture
has resulted in extremely compact and yet powerful machines. The 252 and
352 are highly attractive, modern in appearance and yet rugged and "fit
for purpose" - the hard life of a production welding workhorse.
Though most DC TIG welding applications use welding currents below 200Amps,
currents up to 300 or even 400Amps are quite common for aluminium. The
new Transtig AC/DC 252 provides up to 320Amps AC or DC and is rated at
250Amps at 40% duty. Its more powerful (but not larger!) brother Transtig
AC/DC 352, outputs up to 380 Amps offering 350Amps at 40% duty on a 10
minute cycle. The electronically controlled circuitry provides excellent
AC squarewave output and a unique commutation network virtually eliminates
rectification problems. Of course, AC TIG balance control is standard
providing precise control of penetration and arc cleaning action. Further,
for DC MMA applications, arc force can be continuously varied from soft,
for most general purpose and stainless applications, through to a deeply
penetrating mode normally required when welding with cellulosic electrodes.
Transtigs AC/DC 252 and 352 operate from 400-415V single phase supplies,
or more correctly in the UK, any 2 phases of a 3-phase industrial outlet.
Power Factor Correction is standard and, per the legal requirement, both
machines comply fully with the new arc equipment safety standards EN60974-1
and EN50199 and hence with the Low Voltage Directive and Electro Magnetic
Compatibility Directive. Obviously both machines are CE approved.
The Transtigs incorporate a host of advanced facilities. Adjustable pre
and post weld gas purges are of course standard. Full remote control facilities
are provided with either 2 or 4-stroke modes of torch switch operation.
A specialised electronic module incorporates controls to set start current,
slope-up time, slope-down time and the final crater current level prior
to arc extinguishment. In the 4-stroke torch switch mode, these controls
enable the operator to hold the current at a low starting level after
striking the arc to ensure accurate positioning before initiating the
upslope to the main welding current level. Further, the welder can hold
the current at its final crater level, after sloping down, to ensure the
weld crater has washed out before arc off and postpurge.
For precision DC TIG applications Transtig 252 and 352s single range
output will weld down to as low as 10 Amps. Further, the 352 model incorporates
a digital meter as standard (optional on 252) providing an accurate readout
of welding amps and volts. In amps mode the meter also provides a means
of accurately pre-setting the welding output.
For specialised
applications where pulse TIG is necessary, dissimilar heatsinks, thick
to thin etc., an optional pulse control module can be installed in the
control panel providing controls for peak and background settings with
pulse times down to as low as 50 milliseconds.

Excellent performance, versatility, flexibility and rugged reliability.
Very compact and yet extremely powerful. They are delivered as standard
with fitted 4 wheel undergear, primary cable, gas hose and cylinder/torch
water cooler carrier accepting the Murex OCE2H water cooler. The machines
are plumbed for water cooled TIG torches and provide 220VAC auxiliary
power for the cooler. Torch connection is via either standard Murex type
3/8"/1/4" BSP RH fittings or by dins plug.
