DISTRIBUTOR SERVES THE NEEDS OF AUTOMOTIVE AND INDUSTRIAL WELDERS

Process: MIG
Product : Transmig 253

Situated in Willenhall, at the heart of the industrial West Midlands, West Mercia Welding Services is ideally placed to supply the needs of industry throughout the surrounding areas - and further afield too, due to its close proximity to the motorway network.

Having close ties with the automotive industry has recently resulted in West Mercia supplying a West Midlands automotive manufacturer with eight Murex Transmig 253 industrial MIG welding machines, complete with Transmatic 4x4HD heavy-duty wire feed systems and Marathon Pac bulk wire packs. This equipment has been installed on a new automatic production line.

The automotive company already had a production line with three automatic welding stations that utilised Murex equipment, so when the new line was required with eight stations, Murex was again specified due to the reliable service gained from the existing machines.

Established for over 25 years, West Mercia Welding Services is highly experienced in catering for the needs of the welding and associated industries. Furthermore, having been an ESAB Group distributor for over six years, the company has built up sales of the ESAB and Filarc Marathon Pacs to become one of the largest distributors of this product in the UK.

The ESAB Marathon Pac is designed for production applications requiring a minimum of downtime. Each unit contains 200 or 250kg of continuous wire, thereby significantly reducing the normal production stoppage times associated with the changing of smaller reels of wire. This results in more consistent weld quality as well as increased productivity. Environmental advantages are also gained by using the Marathon Pac. It is manufactured in accordance with an ISO14001 approved environmental management standard, and the packaging is totally recyclable.

West Mercia offers operator training on equipment, as well as a full technical service for customers, as explained by Bill Malloy, Sales Manager: "For example, as soon as we receive an enquiry for an application requiring automated welding, we go and look at the robot or auto station and advise the customer on how the Marathon Pac works, and where it should be situated. Once we have installed the equipment, we stay with the customer for a considerable time to make sure that he knows how to operate the system and that it is working correctly."
