ARC WELDING SERVICES KEEPS CUSTOMERS UP TO DATE WITH LATEST WELDING TECHNOLOGY

Pictured outside their premises in Aston, Birmingham are key members of Arc Welding Services' team, the distributor and service centre for Murex Welding Products. The team is photographed with some of the latest welding products introduced by Murex which are now in the showroom. "We aim to ensure our customers have access to the very latest products," says owner Terry Harris. "This includes technology for all processes - MIG, TIG, plasma, MMA and gas welding."

As a main Murex service centre and distributor, ARC Welding Services caters for a wide range of industries throughout the Greater Midlands area from its Aston base. Established over 20 years ago, the company was founded when BOC Murex decided to cease servicing of welding equipment. That's when Terry, who already had 10 years' employment service with BOC, decided to continue the service side where BOC had left off.

From being one of the first appointed BOC Murex service centres, ARC has steadily grown and now supplies companies and organisations of all sizes. There are currently five full time staff - all engineers who are able to provide customers with technical know-how and experience.

In order to be able to offer a first class service to customers, ARC needs to be sure that backup is readily available from Murex when required - something that Terry Harris was keen to stress, "The technical back-up we give to customers is first class. That's made possible because we get the information we need from Murex whenever it's required - if you have a problem they sort it out!"

ARC Welding Services does not employ any sales staff, and never needs to advertise, relying instead on reputation and word of mouth to gain new customers. Terry Harris said, "Several years ago we used to repair the odd machine for a medical supply company. At the time they were getting their welding rods from another supplier who had told them they were a special item and was charging them an extortionate price for them.

When we researched what they were using, we found out they were standard TIG rods, so we started to supply them instead at the proper price. Things snowballed after that, and we have become a major supplier to that company who are now a multinational and buy all their machines from us."
